Every now and then, a project comes along that feels bigger than the work itself. Our recent involvement with a historic Peachtree Battle home in Haynes Manor was exactly that.

Built in 1925, this residence is believed to be one of the earliest homes in the neighborhood—and one of the few originals still standing today. While the name of the architect has been lost over time, the home remains a meaningful part of Atlanta’s architectural story, developed under the vision of Mr. Haynes, an Atlanta jeweler who helped define the character of the area.

When the homeowners reached out, they needed something unusual: custom exterior trim recreated to match the home’s original 1925 design. It’s not a type of work we typically take on, but the significance of the home—and the owners’ trust—made it something we felt compelled to help preserve.

Why This Historic Home Needed Custom Trim Work

Historic homes in Atlanta often feature trim profiles and millwork that simply aren’t produced anymore. When pieces deteriorate, you can’t just head to a hardware store for a replacement. Using modern, off-the-shelf trim would compromise the home’s authenticity.

The only way to maintain its architectural identity is to have the trim custom-milled.

For this project, we partnered with the specialists at Trim Depo, who recreated each weathered piece with the right proportions and historical detail. While trim fabrication is outside our normal scope, we managed the process, installed the new pieces with care, and handled all the prep, priming, and painting. The result is an exterior that retains its original charm while gaining the durability it needs to stand strong for years to come.

Bringing the Interior Back to Life

The interior required the same preservation-focused approach. Homes built in the 1920s come with unique challenges—plaster walls, aging woodwork, and surfaces that require thoughtful preparation rather than quick fixes. Before and After of custom trim work done by Atlanta's Paint Doctor

Our team approached each room with respect for the original craftsmanship:

  • Repairs suited for older materials
  • Prep methods that prevent further damage
  • Paintwork designed to refresh, not overwrite history

The home now feels renewed without losing the character that makes it special.

Why We Took This Project — Even Though It’s Not Typical for Us

We aren’t a trim fabrication company, and we don’t position ourselves as one. But this home wasn’t an everyday project.

Its age, its architectural importance, and the homeowners’ dedication made it something we were proud to support. We stepped outside our usual scope because:

  • The home deserved thoughtful preservation
  • The homeowners trusted us with its history
  • The level of craftsmanship aligned with our values
  • Maintaining the neighborhood’s historic fabric matters

When a nearly century-old home needs help, the right response isn’t, “That’s not something we do.”

It’s, “Let’s find the right partners and do this the right way.”

What This Project Shows About Our Team

Even though custom trim milling isn’t part of our standard services, this project highlights the strengths we bring to historic homes:

  • We can manage complex, detail-driven work
  • We understand how to blend new materials with original architecture
  • We prioritize preservation
  • We take on meaningful challenges when the home calls for it

This wasn’t just painting. It was stewardship.

Why Custom Trim Matters for Older Homes

Trim isn’t just decoration—it frames the architectural language of a home. Matching it correctly preserves authenticity and protects long-term value.

Custom-milled trim ensures:

  • True historical accuracy
  • Seamless integration with original design
  • Increased longevity
  • Consistent visual character

In neighborhoods like Haynes Manor, Peachtree Battle, and Buckhead, these details are part of what makes the community unique.

A Special Project, A Historic Home, A Mission Fulfilled

Working on this 1925 Haynes Manor home was an honor. Homes like this are rare, irreplaceable, and deeply tied to Atlanta’s history. Helping preserve those details—even something as specific as a trim profile—is part of protecting that legacy.

While custom trim fabrication isn’t something we normally offer, this project reminded us why we do what we do: to deliver quality work that respects the homes we touch.
